Bringing a car up from USA to Canada

Yesterdays adventure started at 4:15 AM so we could get the 6:00 AM boat to Vancouver. The objective : to pick up parts from Belkirk Mustang for Steves 1964 Convertible and pick up the 1952 MGTD i had bought.The US Customs Vehicle Export Office closes at 4:00 so one must be at the office by that time. Needless to say the early rising wasnt fun but we made it to Belkirk Mustang at around 10:30 expecting to roll in, pick up the parts we needed and go (as Steve had faxed his order in 3 days previous with instructions to have the order ready as we were in a hurry) of course it wasnt ready and we hung around until 11:45 while they gathered everything up ( they did have lots of parts in stock and at very reasonable prices as well). Then off we went to pick up the TD, all went well, loaded up the car ,test drove a 1968 Roadrunner with a 440 , wow. Looked at some other cars and off we went to the border...Ahhh made it with 15 minutes to spare, stampy stamp we were off to the Canadian Customs. Steve was done in 15 Minutes paid GST and PST on his parts and was all finished , meanwhile I was there for 2 and a half hours trying to get my paper work done. I learned 2 things then one Customs people and customs brokers employees done like each other , and two it is best to have the paperwork done ahead of time otherwise it is a looooong wait. Oh, but wait there is more, ferries crashing into marinas and long weekend combined into a 5 hour wait at the ferry terminal until the 12:00 am boat which got me home at 2:30 AM all in all a 22 hour day. And people think that buying and selling British cars is easy! But props for BC Ferries for adding extra sailings and for the new terminal in Vancouver , it is nice and has much better food facilities than before.

And the smell of winter stored vinatge cars is in the air. Everyone is changing fluids, checking brakes and doing thorough inspections to their favorite "second" car. Or like me you sit in it after not even looking at it all winter, turn and the key and hope the battery has enough charge to fire it up, and without a second thought roar off at top speed! I have perhaps been a little hasty in my original posting of the lack of Motorsports activity in Victoria, I attended a MG Club Slalom recently and had a great time (didnt drive but watched) everyone was pushing their cars to the limit and having great fun doing it. I look forward to attending a Porsche or Victoria Motorsports Club event soon and i am sure they will be just as excellent...now if I can just finish putting the rear sway bar on the TR4....

Favorite Drivers of All Time

I have 3 favorite Drivers , although there are many more I admire. they are (in no order Jackie Stewart, Mario Andretti and Mark Donohue. Jackie because of his style , humour concerns for safety and wily Scottish business skills. Mario because of his friendly personality , versatilty and outright speed and Donohue because of his engineering skills andbecause of his book " the Unfair Advantage" a great read for any one interested in Motorsports.

Classic Cars of the future

What will be the Classic car of the future? That is the question,,as the baby boomers age, they have been the last 10 years buying up the car of their youth, 60's and 70's Muscle and sports cars , cars they remember from the "good old days". But what cars will be remembered and restored when the 30 somethings of today retire and find themselves with time on their hands and a hankering for the nostalgia. I would say2 come to mind, the first generation VW GTI and the Honda CRX, it is getting harder to find nice clean unmolested cars these days , but when I was in college in the early mid Nineties they were everywhere. What does everyone else think?....

How come there isnt a British Car Swapmeet in Victoria? Lord knows there are probably dozens of people who have bits and pieces in there garages and basements who would be happy to get rid of themI guess one could go to the big swapmeet out at the Saanich Fairgrounds but it seems to me that that is mainly for Domestic Car fans. Whatever happened to the Victoria HotRod/Motorsports Show that used to happen at the Esquimalt Arena?

Oh and as a side note I am looking for Barn Space for Classic Car storage, no Power, lights or heat required just 4 walls a roof and a door, at least enough for 10 cars. please...anyone.

Lack Of Motorsports in Victoria

Welcome to my Blog! I created this to initiate discussion on all types of Motorports/Performance and Collector cars in Victoria B.C , Canada. My bigget complaint is the lack of Motorsports in Victoria! i was very disapointed in the demise of the proposed facility in Cowichan, as I think it would have brought lots of people and revenue dollars to the South Island region . As well as providing a safe controlled enviroment for all motorsports activites in Victoria.and Yes I do attend Western Speedway, I am a driver of a 1993 Honda Civic in the Ministock division, which is huge fun and a good start to racing.But i think that there should be more Slaloms and even drifting could easily be a venture to consider at western as well.Is it a lack of interest? is it a demographic?I am interested to hear..
